The relationships and situations in life are myriad. I take intense delight in studying, interpreting, and indeed inventing them. They can be obvious, subtle, mysterious, disturbing and very often wryly humorous.
I have explored this by creating a unique body of work consisting of acrylic life-size two-dimensional figures and acrylic paintings that specifically relate to each one. More than forty sets have been created. Each is totally different from the other. I have made wide use of heavy texture, or impasto, in most of the works...both in the figures and the paintings. I feel this naturally adds much more interest and realism.
My figures are in most cases painted on artists' canvas glued to either plywood or particle board. They are consequently very sturdy, and can be braced against a wall by a simple Velcro tipped wood dowel. The "frames" in the paintings are actually painted (acrylic), with appropriate textures, which gives them a personal and relevant touch. The edges of the figures have been covered with strips of canvas, and painted with acrylics as well, with matching textures. That was considerable work, but gives the figures a finished look.
I have composed explanatory poems for all of the works. The poems are usually eight lines in length. They are available upon request.
My apologies for the less-than-great photography of the works, what with some distortion here and there, etc. The photos are intended to simply convey the essence of the works.
Dimensions shown are for the paintings, and the size of the figures can be judged accordingly.
Even if you do not wish to make a purchase, I hope you will enjoy the works and think about the wide-ranging relationships one can find in this mysterious entity called life.
Comments would be very welcome, via email or however you wish. I also would be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Have a great day...or evening!
